Accelerator Mass Spectrometry at Vera
The Vienna Environmental Research Accelerator (VERA) is a dedicated facility for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), operated at the University of Vienna since 1996. The principle of AMS with VERA and the advantage of measuring long-lived radioisotopes by atom counting (AMS) rather than decay counting (ß decay) is described. A brief overview on AMS applications is also presented.
متن کاملAccelerator Complex for a Radioactive Ion Beam Facility at Atlas
Since the superconducting heavy ion linac ATLAS is an ideal post-accelerator for radioactive beams, plans are being developed for expansion of the facility with the addition of a driver accelerator, a production targethon source combination, and a low q/m pre-accelerator for-radioactive ions. A working group including staff from the ANL Physics Division and current ATLAS users are preparing a r...
متن کاملPOSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ION MASS SPECTRA OF RING - SUBSTITUTED NITROBENZENES
The 70 ev positive and negative ion mass spectra of ring-substituted nitrobenzenes were studied. The influence of the substituent group on the fragmentation modes of the molecular ions is discussed. The effect of pressure in the formation of negative ions was also studied. As expected, the ratio of fragment ions to negative molecular ions decreased with increasing pressure in ion source.
متن کاملTechnetium Measurements by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry at LLNL
Technetium-99 is a long-lived, high-abundance fission product which has been widely distributed in the environment through atmospheric testing, the nuclear fuel cycle, and nuclear medicine. It has a high potential for migration in the environment as the pertechnetate anion. At the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, methods are being developed for the detection of this radionuclide by acc...
متن کاملAccelerator mass spectrometry and its applications
The state of the art in accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) is reviewed. The review is divided in two parts. The first covers the general methodology, followed by its specific elaborations for the commonly measured long-lived isotopes such as 10Be, 14C, 26Al, 36Cl and 129I, as well as other isotopes with emerging applications. The second part considers the very wide spectrum of applications tha...
